Photo Friday #130: on foot

Apparently Mother Nature has it in for retailers in St. Louis this year. The past two weekends, we’ve had snow and ice dumped on our city just in time to ruin everyone’s (read: MY) Saturday Christmas-related errands. I suppose there are people who won’t let a few inches of ice on the roads change their holiday shopping agendas, but I am not one of them.

Still. Christmas shopping aside, I need to mail packages. I need to get groceries. I need to go to Mass. When we lived in Nashville and it snowed, I was SOL. We were stuck in surburbia with no hope of snow plows or salt trucks coming to our cul-de-sac. But no more!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I’ve been documenting our adventures in our walkable neighborhood. Maybe I can’t get all my Christmas shopping done, but I can go to work. And to church, and the post office, and the grocery (we have our choice of two!), and restaurants and stores and the library. Now, do I like carrying bags of groceries home while penguin-walking on snowy sidewalks? No. But I like it a whole lot more than scraping ice off the car and trying to maneuver it down slippery roads.

Living in a walkable neighborhood is amazing, y’all. Don’t let my griping about the snow fool you. This is everything I hoped it would be.

I am jealous of your walkable neighborhood. I dream of living in one one day.

There ARE a lot of positives about living in a walkable neighborhood! Enjoy them and bundle up, it looks like it's going to be a long cold winter. Ugh.
